Dog-Friendly Pubs in Kew: What Makes The Greyhound a Favourite

A Dog Walker's Local on Kew Green

Kew is one of the best parts of London for dog owners. The Thames towpath runs for miles in both directions, Kew Green is one of West London's prettiest open spaces, and the tree-lined streets between Kew Gardens and Kew Bridge make for proper walking territory. After all of that, every dog walker needs the same thing: a good pub at the end of it.

The Greyhound Kew has been that pub for as long as most of our regulars can remember.

A Genuine Welcome, Not Just Tolerance

There is a difference between a pub that allows dogs and a pub that genuinely welcomes them. We have always tried to be the second kind. Dogs are welcome throughout the pub and in the beer garden, not just tucked into a corner by the door. Our staff know most of the regulars by name, four-legged ones included.

If you want the full picture, our dog friendly pub page covers everything from the indoor layout to the best nearby walks.

Water Bowls, Treats and the Practical Stuff

Water bowls live at the bar and get topped up through the day. Treats are on hand for the dogs we already know, and available on request for the ones we haven't met yet. None of this is a marketing gesture. The towpath crowd has always come in, so we have always done it.

The Perfect Stop After a Walk

The geography helps. We sit on the corner of Kew Green, two minutes from the Thames towpath and a short walk from Kew Bridge, the Elizabeth Gate of Kew Gardens, and Kew Gardens station. Most of our dog-walking regulars come in muddy and a little tired, settle into a quiet table, and stay for a pint or a meal.

A note worth knowing: dogs are not permitted inside Kew Gardens itself. The good news is that Kew Green, the towpath, and the Old Deer Park are all within minutes and offer some of the best dog walking in West London.

A Proper Pub for the Owners

A dog friendly pub still needs to be a good pub. Our kitchen runs from noon every day, and the menu changes with the seasons. The Sunday roast is the obvious draw at the weekend, but the main menu is built to be ordered from on a quiet Tuesday lunch just as comfortably.

The bar carries craft ales, real ales, a carefully chosen wine list and handcrafted cocktails. We stock what we believe in, not what we have been told to sell.

A Local Favourite for the Right Reasons

We are family-run, independent, and have been part of Kew for decades. You can read more about that in our story. When regulars tell us why they keep coming back, the answers tend to overlap: the dog is welcome, the food is good, the welcome is real.

If you are walking the towpath this weekend, finish at The Greyhound. Book a table and let us know you are bringing the dog.
